Nikolas Xarles Gamarra

Application and Software Engineer at Robotic Systems Integration.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Robotic Engineering alumnus with minors in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. At WPI the Robotic Engineering program is a combination of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science.

I became passionate about robotics in high school when I was a leading member of my school's FIRST robotics team West Side Boiler Invasion (FRC 461). During that time I became proficient in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and some manufacturing processes. I was also my team's driver for three years.

During my time at WPI I discovered I enjoyed programming for robotics and began to switch my focus from Mechanical Engineering to Computer Science.

In my free time I enjoy my passion for working on DIY projects. My projects including everything from woodworking and building furniture to designing and programming robots. A common theme for my projects is a focus on aesthetically pleasing objects with unique functionality.

I also enjoy traveling. During my childhood I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel a lot because my father is from Spain and my mother traveled to conferences for her work as a professor. As stated by Mark Twain, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness...". For that reason, I believe it is important for all people to travel and experience other cultures.
